Hosting Renewal Price Trap: True 3-Year Cost of Top 5 Hosts in India
Web Hosting at just ₹69/month!" You’ve seen banners like this all over the place. Then you reach the counter and the bill is a few thousand rupees. Then three years later you get an email renewal for two, three, or even four times what you first paid.
This is the hosting renewal price trap and it catches almost every first time website owner in India. The hosting companies aren't hiding anything illegal. The low price is real, but it's for your first term only. Usually on a long plan paid up front. Then you pay the standard rate.
In this guide I break down the actual 3 year cost of web hosting in India, including the 18% GST, using prices from our Top5India reviews so you know exactly what you are signing up for.
How the hosting renewal trap works
The trap has three parts, and once you see them, you can't unsee them.
1. The headline price needs a long plan. The lowest monthly rate is usually available only if you pay for 3 or 4 years upfront.
2. GST is added at checkout. Most Indian hosting prices exclude 18% GST, so your bill is higher than the banner suggests.
3. Renewal is at the regular price. When your first term ends, the discount disappears, and the plan renews at its full rate.
A real example: GoDaddy Web Hosting Starter
In our GoDaddy review, the Starter plan is ₹89/month on a 3-year term, with a regular price of ₹299/month. Here is what that means in practice:
True 3-year cost of the top 5 hosts in India
I took the entry plan of each host from our Top5India reviews and worked out two numbers, both including 18% GST: what you pay for your first 3 years at the intro price, and what the next 3 years cost at the renewal price.
What the numbers tell us
• The cheapest banner is not the cheapest host. Hostinger has the lowest intro price, but Cyberin is the cheapest over 6 years because its renewal jump is the smallest (about 1.5x).
• Hostinger has the steepest jump. Its Single plan goes from ₹69 to ₹289 a month, about 4.2 times more. It is still great value for the first 4 years, so just plan for the renewal.
• GoDaddy's renewal more than triples the monthly price, from ₹89 to ₹299.
• Bluehost costs the most over 6 years on its entry plan, and dollar billing means the rupee price can also move with the exchange rate.
How to avoid the hosting renewal trap
These are the habits I recommend to every reader before they pay for hosting:
1. Always check the renewal price first. Look for "renews at" or "regular price" next to the plan. If you can't find it, ask support before buying.
2. Compare the 6-year total, not the monthly banner. Use this simple formula: (intro price × months) + (renewal price × months) + 18% GST.
3. Lock in the longest term you are sure about. A 3- or 4-year plan keeps the intro price for longer and delays the jump.
4. Untick add-ons at checkout. Extra security, SEO tools and backup add-ons can quietly increase both the first bill and every renewal.
5. Turn off auto-renew and set a reminder. Shop around a month before renewal. Many hosts offer free migration, so switching is easier than you think.
6. Ask for a renewal discount. Before your plan renews, contact support. Some hosts will offer a better rate to keep you.
If a predictable bill matters more than the lowest starting price, consider hosts with smaller renewal jumps, or managed cloud hosting such as Cloudways, which our rankings note has no renewal price hikes.

Which hosting has lowest renewal price in India? Of the five entry plans we compared, Cyberin Basic has the smallest jump, from ₹119 to ₹183 a month on its 36-month plan.
Is GST included in the hosting prices in India? Not very often. Most hosts prices include 18% GST so add it and compare the real cost.
Should I purchase a 3 year or 4 year hosting plan? If your website is sure, then yes. The intro price is locked in longer with a longer term. If you’re just testing an idea, a shorter plan prevents you from paying for years you may never use.
Yes, you can change hosts, instead of renewing. "Yes. The smart way to avoid the jump is to move before renewal. See our guide on hosting providers with free website migration for easy options.
Our verdict
It’s not a scam, but it’s easy to fall into the trap of renewal pricing for hosting. Judge hosts based on their 6 year total including GST not banner price. So, based on that, Cyberin is the best value of the 5 entry plans we compared, Hostinger is the cheapest for the first 4 years and Bluehost is the most expensive in the long run.
Before you click 'Buy' check the renewal price add GST and do the maths.
